Neck pain causes

Many people complain about experiencing neck pain. The neck is made up of the cervical discs and vertebrae which join the skull from the torso. There are also muscles, ligaments and bones. In case of abnormality, stiffness, injury or inflammation one will suffer from neck pain.
In most of the cases, the pain may not be a cause of concern because it tends to resolve on its own. However, if the pain persists for days or weeks, one should seek immediate medical attention.
Some of the main causes of neck pain include any of the following:

Posture

If you have a poor posture, you will hurt the neck muscles, ligaments among other parts of the neck.

Failure to change position

If you work on a desk for long without changing you position, you will strain the neck muscles. This leads to a problem that is manifested in the form of pain.

Sleeping the wrong way

The way you sleep determines to some extent if you are going to have neck pain or not. The neck may be elevated or lower in respect to the rest of the body. As a result, one will have a serious neck problem such as a dislocation.

Jerking movement

When exercising, you might hurt the neck by jerking it. It is advisable that one exercises with a lot caution to prevent the jerky movement.

Injuries

The neck is usually vulnerable to injuries resulting from falls. Others include car accidents and during sports. The ligaments and muscles are usually the ones that are affected most. They are delicate, hence sensitive to any external force which pushes them outside their limits.

Fractures

These are common when one gets involved in accidents. For instance, a fracture may occur when the head jerks suddenly in what we commonly refer to as a whiplash.

Heart attack

A persistent neck pain may be a symptom of other conditions such as a heart attack. You will notice that you are running short of breath, nausea, sweating and pain in the jaw. When you notice any of these symptoms, you should look seek treatment for a possible heart attack.

Meningitis

The inflammation of the membrane surrounding the brain is what we call meningitis. One of the symptoms of this condition is a stiff neck. If you have the stiff neck, fever and a headache, you should get treated as a matter of emergency.

Other causes to watch out for

Rheumatoid arthritis is a painful joint condition that is characterised by swelling of the said joints .if left untreated; it affects the neck whereby you will experience pain.

Osteoporosis

The other problem which causes the pain is called osteoporosis. It is characterized by weakening of the bones .The condition is not limited to the hands or the knees.One will also have neck pain.
A traumatic incident may cause the disc at the back to protrude .The pressure build-up may affect the neck, hence the pain.
The degeneration of the spine may lead to pain in the neck region.
